Mack DortMalcolm Dort - President

With over 25 years experience in outdoor and in-house media ventures, Malcolm Dort provides a wealth of wisdom in advertising and business. Some of his ventures included a Newspaper promotion company that operated across North America causing quite a stir by giving away cars to clients and consumers. From Bus Board advertising, Guest directories for hotels, the Nepean magazine "Marketplace" and a magazine for the Nepean Chamber of Commerce, Malcolm's keen understanding of advertising and the needs of business owners inspired him to create The Marketplace Newsletter.

Maclolm started his career as a boy delivering fish door to door in Nova Scotia. From humble beginnings, his drive, determination and business acumen saw to extensive traveling and a number of businesses over the years in ten different countries. The Marketplace Newsletter is the result of all the travels and years of research into the direct mailing industry.

Joan Dort

Joan Dort - Office Administrator

Malcolm is joined by his wife Joan who heads the administration of the business after having spent 18 years as an aesthetician with her own business. Having been a business owner herself, Joan understands the importance of advertising and the significance of it's impact in terms of budgeting.

 

 

 

 

 

P.S. Design

Our creative team at P.S. Design is made up of the talented Daphne Pierce and Tim Skinner. Having worked with Malcolm for over twelve years, they bring a level of expertise and keen eye to the visual aspect of the newsletter. Their design work has helped make The Marketplace Newsletter the success that it is.

 

 

MJ ManciniMJ Mancini - Head Writer and Editor

MJ has been writing professionally for six years and has a wealth of experience from various fields. He holds a degree in Engineering Geophysics from Queen’s University, but his passion is writing. When not writing for the Marketplace Newsletter, MJ writes and develops screenplays for both film and television. In 2003, he was awarded a prestigious screenwriting mentorship with The Canadian Screen Training Center.

“I love writing for the Marketplace Newsletter” says MJ. “I get to meet all sorts of different people from various walks of life and to find out how they are making a difference in our community. Writing about businesses that offer quality services that I myself use and endorse is something special.”

 

Heather FardyHeather Fardy – Writer

From a young age, Heather has enjoyed writing. In grade 3 she won gingerbread cookies for her ‘prize-winning stories’. Over time she expanded her writing to include policy manuals and magazine articles.

With a degree in Communications from the University of Ottawa and a background in customer service, Heather now uses her writing skills to promote local businesses through Marketplace Newsletter. She enjoys meeting customers from a variety of businesses, and learning from them.

Heather is also a medical file proof-reader, and does free-lance writing and editing. These part-time positions enable her to work from home, and thus to be home with her young son after school.

 

Nicola MaudeNicola Maule – Writer

Nicola Maule grew up in Ottawa but was determined to travel and see the world. After spending several years abroad earning a Masters Degree in International Relations in Canberra, Australia and working in marketing for Deloitte Consulting in Paris, France, Nicola chose to return home to Ottawa to raise her family. She is very involved in the community and volunteers much of her time organizing big and small events across the city, such as the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championships. Nicola has a passion for writing, researching new topics and meeting new people. This unique combination of interest and expertise makes Nicola a valuable member of the Marketplace Publishing team which excels at showcasing Ottawa businesses. When she is not working, volunteering or spending time with her family she enjoys practicing yoga, playing tennis, hiking and skiing.

 


Siggy RazmanSiggy Rajzman - Sales West

Siggy’s varied background includes extensive experience not only as a business owner himself but also in the field of local advertising for a collection of popular publications. As such he is a uniquely qualified member of the marketplace newsletter sales team. Understanding the needs of local business owners and the ins and outs of the advertising industry, allows Siggy to find and help companies in our communities get the exposure and business they need to thrive.

 

 

 

 

Peter WrayPeter Wray - Web Manager

Peter’s graduate degree in social work opened the door to working with a variety of non-profit organizations. Peter soon realized they were all in need of professional web presence and saw the potential to help as well as develop a successful business. Now Peter specializes in helping businesses enhance their exposure online through skillfully created websites. His desire to help local businesses and non-profit organizations that enhance the community made him a perfect choice to manage Marketplace Newsletter’s expanding website.

 

Diane ElieDiane Elie

Diane Elie of DME Accounting prides herself on providing more than just top-notch accounting services to individuals and businesses like Marketplace Newsletter, but also on educating her clients and providing them with the expert advice to enhance their method of financial administration.
